Climate in Sumatra
The beautiful, scenic island of Sumatra is made of a tropical Climate which has a little seasonal variation on land. The warm waters of the ocean around the island guarantee a fairly constant temperature. Each different season has a minor difference of daylight hours however, in highlands, the climate is slightly cooler and less moist, hence it is a good place to hike and try other adventure activities. The average daytime climate ranges from 72°F - 86°F (22°C - 30°C) and the humidity levels are higher in the lowlands.(The relative humidity is 70-90% in lowland). Sumatra has two main seasons: The Dry season (February-August) and the Wet season (September-January). The Dry season in Sumatra attracts tourists and foreigners as this is a good time for mountain climbing, to visit nature parks and for the visibility of animals, etc. However, during the Wet season the rain differs from region to region, thus some people have to suffer shattering storms whereas other areas will be treated to rains that are pleasant. Although, as Indonesia’s climate is dominated by heavy monsoon rain, the rainy season is the worst time to travel to Sumatra as local travel is the worst and it is the best time for the spread of mosquito-borne diseases.
